Dill

These herbs are with us from childhood: what would bread be without caraway, cucumbers without dill and as a baby the first tea you get is fennel tea.

Dill, caraway and fennel are very flavourful herbs and belong to the umbellifer family. All have a strong fragrance due to the aromatic oils they contain and grow up to one metre tall. Dill and caraway get along well with a semi-shady location, while fennel originating from southern climates likes full sun. What they all have in common is that they prefer a deep, calcareous, nutrient-rich and slightly moist soil and a place sheltered from the wind.
