Carrot Cosmic Purple Seeds
Info: Carrot `Cosmic Purple` was bred in 2005 and meanwhile it is very popular. With its beautiful purple colour, a length of 15 to 20 cm and the smooth and straight roots that have a sweet flavour and a slight hint of spice it is a highlight in every salad or vegetable dish. When sliced into "carrot coins", its deep velvety purple exterior gives way to a starburst of brilliant orange at their core.
The purple carrot is a nutritional powerhouse as it has double the level of beta-carotene than the orange carrot and contains 28 times more anthocyanins.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow from Febuary under cloches or fleece. Can be sown outdoors as late as August. Sow them as thinly as possible, this reduces the amount of thinning necessary. Mix the seeds with a handful of sharp sand and sow the seeds and sand together. Plants should be kept well watered and carrots prefer a sandy, well-drained soil. Too much nitrogen will cause the carrots to grow hairy little roots all up and down the carrot.
