Salsify Sandwich Island Seeds

Info: The salsify Sandwich Island is also known by the names "Oat Root", "Purple Bocksbart" or "Habermark". Due to its fine aroma, it is also called "vegetable oyster" in England. It is an ancient root vegetable that has been cultivated for several hundred years. Steamed, the sweetish, pale-skinned root is a real delicacy. The leaves are also used as a salad or prepared as spinach. In the second year, the salsify makes beautiful, purple flowers.

Sowing & cultivation: The sowing can be done from March directly into the field. Sowing depth should be 2-3 cm. Sawing is best done in rows with a row spacing of 30-40cm and a planting distance of 8-10cm. Care should be taken to have a deep, humus-rich, well-loosened and fertilized soil. The soil should be regularly loosened and kept evenly moist. Since salsify is a medium-sized crop, it requires some additional compost to fertilize.
